Music has its own alphabet, and its super simple—it only has 7 letters: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. After G, it starts all over again with A. These 7 letters are called “Natural Notes” and the symbol is ♮ which is sometimes written on the music sheet. They are the “white keys” on the piano.
A sharp indicates that a note moves higher by ½ step. For example, if you are playing note “A” and you move forward one fret, you will play the note “A♯”.
A flat indicates that a note moves lower by ½ step. For example, if you are playing note “A” and you move backward one fret, you will play the note “A♭”.
